Many Celtic supporters have been fuming at a news update regarding Anthony Ralston that emerged on social media recently.

Celtic have reportedly taken up the option to extend Ralston’s contract at Parkhead, even though Premiership and Championship clubs are interested in the Scotsman.

Both Jeremie Frimpong and Hatem Abd Elhamed left the club last season and while Jonjoe Kenny joined on loan, he has already left the club to re-join parent club, Everton.

It appears that Ange Postecoglou will give the defender an opportunity to prove himself ahead of the Hoops’ 2021/22 kick-off and as things stand, he is the club’s only recognised right-back.

An update regarding this news was posted on Twitter by The Daily Record. Many Celtic fans made their opinion clear about it.

“He couldn’t displace the worst right-back I’ve ever seen play for us in Jonjoe Kenny so why the hell is Ralston getting an extension? Make it make sense!

Ralston made just one appearance for the side last season and he was left on the bench in multiple games for the Hoops. It suggests that the club doesn’t trust the Scotsman to be a regular for the side.

Celtic fans, can you get 8/8 on this quiz on forgotten players? First up: who is this?

But since Ralston happens to be their only out-and-out right-back option, it would make sense to keep him as a potential last resort. If Celtic fail to sign a right-back this summer, they would have Ralston to fall back on.
