Celtic fans on Twitter have been responding to the latest piece of transfer news to emerge concerning their club.

This comes after Celtic-focused Twitter account @aboutceltic shared a post relaying news originally published in an article by journalist Scott Wilson for The Northern Echo.

Celtic fans, can you get 8/8 on this quiz on forgotten players? First up: who is this?

In the article, Wilson revealed that Celtic are “increasingly confident of being able to complete a deal” for striker Charlie Wyke, who is a free agent having run down his deal at Sunderland.

This post then grabbed the attention of a lot of Hoops fans who were not shy in sharing their thoughts on this latest claim.

So, what did these Celtic fans have to say in response to this latest transfer news?

“Sunderland fans all saying he’s average so hopefully that’s not true unless he’s coming in as 3rd/4th choice”

@PJ_1888

Hahahahahahahaha a complete waste of money again and again and again. I swear at this rate Aberdeen will finish above us if we are targeting players at 28 years old in league 1 in England. A thought it was buy young and sell? Hmm. I Think the board make it up as they go along…”

@AlbaRepublic__

“Game over if this the level of player we are going for”

@JimClark115

“Better be a joke”

“Haven’t a clue who that is”

@DarraghMcGeown3

“Pls no”

@ATcfc88

Looking at the replies to this post, it seems that these Celtic fans are not too keen on the idea of their club signing Wyke this summer.

Are you excited by this latest transfer rumour?

No

Given how the 28-year-old, whose deal at Sunderland expires at the end of the month, managed to score 30 goals in 53 appearances for the Black Cats across all competitions this past season, this could make for a smart bit of business for Celtic if they can get him on a free transfer this summer, in our view.

However, the fact that Celtic are reportedly targeting a player from an English League One club probably doesn’t fit in with the aspirations and ambitions of these supporters, which could be why they have responded in this negative fashion.
