Tottenham could save themselves £50m this summer if Dele Alli is fully reintegrated into the team, claims the club’s former defender Graham Roberts.

Alli was a peripheral figure under Jose Mourinho, sometimes failing to even make the matchday squad during the 58-year-old’s spell in north London.

The English midfielder’s situation improved drastically, though, following Ryan Mason’s appointment as interim manager, and now Roberts is calling for him to be given more opportunities under Mourinho’s successor.

Speaking exclusively to TIF about Alli, the Spurs legend said:

“[Mauricio] Pochettino was talking about bringing him to Paris in January, but the club stopped that. So, you know, it just all fits nicely.

“They haven’t got to then go out and spend 30, 40, 50 million pounds on a player to take over from Dele Alli.”

When fit and firing, Alli is probably one of the most dangerous players in the Premier League. Some of the numbers he posted in his earlier Tottenham days were just brilliant.

Of course, that was a few years ago. Some may doubt whether he is capable of reaching those heights again.

However, the England international is still just 25 years of age. Time is on his side, so perhaps it is worth Fabio Paratici and Mourinho’s eventual successor giving him a real shot in the forthcoming season.
