Journalist Fabrizio Romano has recently talked about the club’s chase of Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier.

It has been reported that United are interested in bringing Trippier to Old Trafford and talks with Atletico Madrid have begun already. The Englishman is allegedly interested in returning to the North West of England and he’s looking for houses in Manchester already.

Romano appeared on the latest episode of the United Muppetiers podcast and he talked about United’s interest in Trippier this summer. The journalist claimed that Atleti don’t have the intentions to sell the Englishman this summer and it isn’t easy to sign him because of the Spanish club’s asking price of a minimum of €40 million (£34.4 million).

Journalist Jonathan Shrager has also confirmed recently that United do have an interest in Trippier and he plans to return to the Premier League. The defender is valued at £18 million currently.

Romano talked about the right-back’s situation and said: “I think that Atletico Madrid have no intention to sell the player. I can tell, they want to keep him. And Trippier is so respectful, he’s a respectful player, a respectful guy.

“So if Atletico Madrid find an agreement to sell him, he’s leaving and he’ll be happy to join Manchester United. But if Atletico Madrid decide to keep him, he’s staying and he’s totally happy with Simeone. They won the league, they want to do something important in the project. So Trippier is not worried about his situation.

“About the price – what I heard is that not less than €40 million. So it’s not easy this summer to sign Trippier.”

TIF Thoughts on Trippier to Man United…

In the 2020/21 campaign, Aaron Wan-Bissaka played 54 games in all competitions while contributing to as many as eight goals for the side. The number of games that he played show that perhaps he is the club’s only right-back that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer trusts.

It could be argued United do not have solid backup for Wan-Bissaka, so to take the burden off the former Crystal Palace, United could perhaps do with another right-back this summer. Trippier has played in the Premier League with Tottenham and he’s also a United fan. So signing him will make sense for the club.
