Gareth Roberts was joined by Dan Draper, who refused to engage with the idea of the Barcelona star returning after his three-year spell at Camp Nou looks likely to come to an end this summer.
Reports circulating earlier this week suggested that Liverpool are still owned a significant fee by the La Liga club and therefore Barcelona are open to the idea of sending Coutinho back to Merseyside at a cut-price, in order to save money.
When asked about his thoughts on Coutinho rejoining Jurgen Klopp’s side, Draper said:
“I wouldn’t want it. I’m really against this idea of players coming back, especially when they force it through. I always think Coutinho did a bit of the dirties when he threw Klopp under the bus when he went about saying Klopp made promises and all. I’m not into any of that type of thing.
“I’d put more energy and time into Curtis Jones, you know what I mean? I’m bringing him on.”
TIF Thoughts on Philippe Coutinho potentially returning to Liverpool…
Judging by these comments, the way Coutinho handled his exit from Liverpool has seemed to damage the relationship with Liverpool fans, as the midfielder handed in a transfer request on the eve of the 2017/18 Premier League season before departing the following January. The Brazilian also sat out of the first few weeks of fixtures with an innocuous back injury – that was supposedly caused by ‘stress‘.
Ultimately, it seems the damage has been done for Reds fans, as the club has clearly moved on from the days of the Brazilian, leaving no room for a sentimental return.
