“How the mighty have fallen,” tweeted one Sheffield Wednesday fan after The Owls were linked to 19-year-old West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Josh Griffiths, according to Birmingham Live.

Wednesday are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper this summer after releasing long-term shot-stopper Keiren Westwood, but with financial problems off the field, they may need to utilise the loan market to get one. Owls manager Darren Moore is formerly of West Brom and it is thought that he will be well aware of the ability of this young starlet.

Griffiths is also reportedly wanted by Cheltenham Town, where he impressed on loan last season, keeping 21 clean sheets in 44 appearances for the Robins, helping them win League Two and secure promotion to the third tier.

The 19-year-old has two years left on his contract at the Baggies and is yet to make a senior appearance for his parent club, but with West Brom’s first-choice goalkeeper Sam Johnstone heavily linked with a move away from The Hawthorns this Summer, West Brom may yet decide they want to keep the youngster.

Sheffield Wednesday fans didn’t seem too impressed with the rumour either way, reacting to the link on Twitter…
