Former Southampton midfielder Carlton Palmer has told This Is Futbol in an exclusive interview that he can see Danny Ings staying at St. Mary’s this summer following Jose Mourinho’s sacking at Tottenham.

Prior to the Portuguese coach’s dismissal from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium dugout, the north London club had been heavily linked with Ings.

The 28-year-old striker’s contract is up at the end of next season, so a sell this summer certainly looks a possibility.

Can Southampton keep hold of Ings?

No

Palmer, however, believes the picture has slightly changed now that Mourinho is no longer at Tottenham – the man who was said to be spearheading Spurs’ pursuit of Ings.

Speaking exclusively to TIF about Ings’ future, the ex-Southampton player said:

Danny’s done well at Southampton, you know, after his horrific injuries. He’s done really well at Southampton.

“What I was hearing is he was linked to go into Spurs. Now Jose’s left Spurs, that could all change.”

Southampton will certainly be hoping Mourinho’s exit has ended Tottenham’s interest in their star striker.

He was the Saints’ top scorer in the Premier League last term, notching up an impressive 22 goals, so he is a player manager Ralph Hasenhuttl will obviously not want to lose before the start of next season.
