Dean Windass has exclusively told This is Futbol that Joe Willock would be an excellent signing for Leeds.

The 21-year-old has made more than 75 appearances for parent club Arsenal but has caught the eye recently during his successful loan spell at Newcastle since January.

Willock hardly featured in the Premier League for the Gunners in the first half of the campaign, with most of his appearances coming in the EFL Cup and Europa League.

But since arriving at St James’ Park, the midfielder has established himself as a regular under Steve Bruce, scoring four times in 10 outings, including crucial equalisers against both Tottenham and Liverpool to boost Newcastle’s survival hopes.

Willock doesn’t turn 22 until August but has plenty of senior experience having recently reached 50 appearances in the Premier League, whilst he’s featured heavily for the Gunners in Europe.

Leeds have been strongly linked with his Arsenal teammate, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, but Windass believes that Willock would perhaps be a better option for Marcelo Bielsa’s team.

Leeds' all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Mark Viduka but how many did he score?

He told This is Futbol:

“You can see him [Willock] playing just in front of Phillips. He can get you goals, not many players can do that. Kalvin Phillips is like the cog; he keeps it together.

“I can see that, I don’t think he’ll stay at Newcastle.”
