Journalist Daniel Storey has made his praise clear for Everton star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Storey appeared on the latest episode of the Totally Football Show podcast and the panel talked about numerous issues involving the recent Premier League weekend. They also talked about Everton’s recent win over West Ham, which led to Storey talking about Calvert-Lewin and his abilities.

The journalist believes that while he initially thought that the Englishman will revert to being a striker who scores only eight or nine goals, he has proved himself in the top flight now.

Can Calvert-Lewin become as good as Harry Kane?

Calvert-Lewin was the goalscorer in Everton’s win over the Hammers, as he found the back of the net in the 24th minute. The striker has now found the back of the net 16 times in the Premier League, picking up two assists as well. Storey believes that the striker is now entering the Harry Kane territory of forwards and he’s given up hopes of the Englishman reverting.

He said (32:58): “They serviced Dominic Calvert-Lewin with a simple pass that nobody seemed to spot [against West Ham]. I really like Dominic Calvert-Lewin because he’s almost entering Harry Kane territory.

“I’ve waited so long for him to revert back to what I thought he’d be, a kind of a target man/striker who scored maybe eight to nine goals a Premier League season. And now I’ve given up waiting for him to revert back. I’ve just decided that he’s really very good.”

TIF Thoughts on Calvert-Lewin…

Calvert-Lewin has impressed for Everton over the last two seasons, finding the back of the net 29 times during this period and also grabbing four assists for the side in all competitions (as per Transfermarkt).

The 24-year-old has managed to outperform his Expected Goals metric this season and while he didn’t do that last campaign, the striker still had a very healthy scoring rate in the Premier League (as per FBRef).

So perhaps, Storey is right to praise Calvert-Lewin and considering that the forward is now an England international, perhaps it is right to rate him as a striker too.
