Fans of Tottenham Hotspur have been reacting on Twitter after a report revealed Roberto Martinez is a strong contender for the vacant managerial role.

Spurs have been searching for Jose Mourinho’s successor for several weeks now after Daniel Levy dismissed the 58-year-old following an unsuccessful 17-month stint in charge.

Several big names such as Erik ten Hag and Julian Nagelsmann have already been ruled out of the running to fill the hot seat in north London, but now the Tottenham hierarchy appears to have moved onto their next candidate.

According to Football Insider, Spurs have made contact with the current Belgium boss, with the 47-year-old reportedly ready to quit the Red Devils after this summer’s European Championships, however, the news hasn’t gone down well with the club’s supporters when it was relayed to them by @HotspurRelated:

“I will firmly give up on Spurs if Martinez, Parker, Southgate or Howe get the job.”

@MDKresurrected

“Oh well another trophyless season…again”

@xthfchans

“I hope this is a joke…”

@BillyRadstock

“Because he was such a hit at Everton? If he gets the job you can forget about being competitive!”

@firemissionover

“If this is true I won’t be following Tottenham Hotspur next season”

@macspur121

“This would be horrendous”

@jamiethfc_

“Please no… I would never forgive Levy for this”

@fffffffaris

Although Martinez has won the FA Cup with Wigan Athletic and guided Belgium to the World Cup semi-finals, he has also suffered relegation from the top-flight with the Latics and endured a difficult spell at Everton, something the Spurs fans clearly haven’t forgotten.
