Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Carlton Palmer believes supporters at his old club will be hoping to see some youth players get given a chance next season.

And looking at the predicament that Wednesday are in, that is something that could just happen.

The Yorkshire outfit recently released 10 players, including the likes of Adam Reach and Jordan Rhodes, leaving room for some fresh faces.

Are you confident Wednesday can win promotion back to the Championship next season?

Meanwhile, The Star states that manager Darren Moore is a big believer in promoting from within and has already challenged some of the club’s academy players to make that step up.

Discussing the subject with TIF, Palmer said:

“Homegrown talents, every club, every supporter likes to see the young players coming through. And actually, the supporters cut the team a bit of slack when they see the young kids coming through.

“But you’ve got to get the balance between the experience and these young kids coming in. You’ve got to get the balance, and I think Darren will do that.”

While he did not come through the ranks at Wednesday, one young player who has been in and around the first team is central defender Osaze Urhoghide.

However, Moore may be without Urhoghide going forward. The 20-year-old has yet to extend his expiring contract, while Football League World are reporting that he is attracting interest from both Watford and Cardiff City.
