Sheffield Wednesday journalist Nancy Frostick has been sharing some details on the current financial situation at the Yorkshire club and the implications around it should the club find themselves in League One next season.

This comes after Frostick made a guest appearance on a recent episode of The Totally Football League Show where she spoke about a number of topics concerning the Owls.

An easy one to kick off our quiz on the 2020 summer transfer window in the EFL, which player left Birmingham City to join Borussia Dortmund?

On the subject of the club’s finances, Frostick had this to say on the matter.

She said: “I think it’s a concern and obviously, for fans when I suppose there are probably other clubs in the Championship or other clubs in League One where this is a reality, but with Wednesday, it just keeps hitting the headlines and so it just builds into this snowball of issues, which is kind of culminating in a game at the weekend, where there are going to be huge financial implications if they go down.

“I think it’s sort of at face value at roughly a £7 million drop from one day to the next if you get relegated and to a club like Wednesday who have had those battles with FFP as well, that sort of difference is quite a chunk.”

Back in December, Frostick reported that the club failed to pay players their wages in full for November, prompting the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) to be called in to offer advice.

It was understood that the club only paid players a percentage of their salaries for November.

TIF Thoughts on Nancy Frostick’s comments on the club’s finances…

With Wednesday currently sat in 23rd place in the Championship table on 40 points with a crucial weekend clash against Derby County, who are currently three points ahead of Wednesday in 21st place, if the Owls end up getting relegated, then it would surely take a hit to their already difficult financial situation.

Do you think the club's finances will be fixed anytime soon?

The best thing everyone at the club could hope for now would be to grab all three points against Derby at the weekend and hopefully secure their place in the Championship for next season which could give them a better platform to sort out their finances from the top of the club.
