Journalist Michael Gannon has recently provided a key detail about the situation of Eddie Howe.

Gannon appeared as a guest on the latest episode of the Record Celtic podcast and the panel talked about multiple issues involving the Hoops and their potential interest in Eddie Howe.

The journalist is of the opinion that the hold-up involving the Englishman pertains to some contractual issues involving his deal at Bournemouth. He might still be on the wage bill at Vitality Stadium, meaning that Celtic are not willing to pay the fee to break his contract and are just waiting for the deal to end.

Is Howe to Celtic still on?

Howe has already reportedly held face-to-face talks with Dermot Desmond about his potential move to Celtic. The former Bournemouth boss has made a demand for Richard Hughes to be brought in.

Gannon made it clear that Celtic are still positive about the situation and they’re optimistic that the move will happen.

The journalist stated: “It’s more legalities and the finer points of contract details. I think that Eddie Howe will be at Celtic in the summer.I suspect that he might still be on the wage bill at Bournemouth and why pay £400,000 to get him out early when the season is done? He could be working away in the background. I’m only surmising. These matters won’t be discussed because it is contractual matters and they are highly private.

“There is also Richard Hughes, that angle as well. Richard Hughes was a Premier League technical director on a good wage as well. Would he get that at Parkhead? That’s another good part of the budget that Celtic are looking at, that they didn’t actually plan for.

“There’s wee things in the background going on like this that cost a lot of money but maybe in the longer term will get ironed out.

“The noises coming out of Celtic are positive this is close or they are optimistic. All these sort of warm, fuzzy phrases. Optimism is the word that’s getting used all the time about Eddie Howe. I don’t think there’s a panic at Celtic.”

TIF Thoughts on Eddie Howe…

While Howe did leave Bournemouth at the end of last season, it has been reported that he had a year left on his contract when he did depart the club, meaning that it expires at the end of the current season.

This might be an indication of the fact that Gannon’s explanation might hold some water and Celtic might be just waiting till the time Howe’s Bournemouth deal finishes. That would help them keep hold of some money or otherwise, they’d have to pay off his Cherries contract.

Considering that they’re now heading towards an overhaul, perhaps they could keep hold of that money and use it in the market.
