The 23-year-old looks set to leave the club this summer, having had something of an inconsistent season when it comes to playing time, especially since the turn of the year, although that has been somewhat been hampered by an ankle injury that he picked up.
Reports suggest that the club will listen to offers of £40m for him and speaking on the TalkSport Gameday podcast, Crook mentioned a conversation he had with former Chelsea and West Ham United man Carlton Cole and how similar his situation was to that of Abraham’s, before hinting that he thinks David Moyes’ men will be the ones that end up signing him:
“It’s an interesting one, Abraham, because I was speaking to Carlton Cole and he was saying that Tammy Abraham is almost in the position at Chelsea now that he was in as a young player, where he had to make the decision for his career to leave Chelsea and go and try and ply his trade elsewhere in order to fulfil his ambitions.
“And you have to say as long as Thomas Tuchel stays in charge, I think that’s the conclusion that the Abraham camp will be coming to as well and I think he’s probably a good bet to end up at West Ham.”
Do you think Abraham would be a good signing?
TIF Thoughts on Crook’s comments about West Ham United potentially going after Tammy Abraham…
Centre-forward is certainly an area that West Ham need to focus on this summer, as they only have the one natural centre-forward on their books in the shape of Michail Antonio, and even he is currently out of action, so the need for squad depth is vital.
And if they end up playing in Europe as well, which they are currently on course for, then that squad depth is going to be even more vital for them. And whilst £40m might sound like a lot on the face of it, to bring in someone with that experience both in the Premier League and European competition to raise the level of the squad could prove crucial for them.
