On the latest edition of the U Irons podcast, journalist Sam Delaney has been discussing the possibility of David Moyes leaving West Ham this summer.

The 58-year-old’s contract with the Hammers is set to expire this summer and despite speculation suggesting the Scotsman will put pen to paper on a news deal, Delaney has some nerves.

Moyes has been linked with a potential summer move to his former club Celtic where he spent time at as during his playing career in the 1980s.

Despite the Hammers flying in the Premier League, Delaney voiced his concerns over the pull Celtic has over Scottish managers and former players in particular.

He said: “What worries me more than that [Spurs links] though, is the prospect that Celtic still don’t have a manager. (42:54)

“He’s an ex Celtic player and I think some people maybe down here in England can underestimate the huge emotional pull of Celtic to one a Scotsman, and two a player who’s actually played for Celtic.

“They’re such an enormous club, it’s such a big deal managing them that part of me thinks well you know unless West Ham hurries up, you can see the appeal to Celtic who’ve now lost out to Rangers and need to get someone very, very serious in.

“I’m really genuinely quite worried I’m surprised it’s not being talked about more.”

TIF Thoughts on Delaney’s comments…

Moyes has publicly said he does not intend on leaving the Hammers this summer. However, in football nothing is certain and it is understandable that Delaney has his worries over the Celtic links given the season West Ham are having.

The Hammers are still pushing Chelsea for a place in the top four of the Premier League with just five games remaining which is a stark contrast to their relegation concerns in the 2019/20 campaign.

It is reported Celtic are looking to rebuild this summer having lost out on their 10th-consecutive Scottish crown to their bitter rivals Rangers. Is that something Moyes wants given the success he is enjoying this summer?
