Sam Carroll, a reporter for the Liverpool Echo, has been speaking on the latest edition of the Royal Blue Everton podcast about the Toffees’ 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.

To kick off this quiz on Seamus Coleman, what squad number does the right-back currently wear for the Toffees?

One of the topics that came up while he was talking about this match was Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison.

The pair missed quite a few chances in this match, but Carroll believes that in the long run, this won’t turn out to be a bad thing.

He said: “It’s also a good thing I think in the long run for Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison.

“I think we’re hoping that we can build a team around them over the next few years, moving towards Bramley Moore.

“I think Marcel Brands had a lot of confidence, didn’t he, when he first came to the club, and there was a clamour; ‘finally, can we replace Lukaku? Can we go and buy a striker? Can we buy a £60/70m player to play up front for us?’

“I think Brands did always have in the back of his mind that Calvert-Lewin was going to be a talent, and he’s been proved right this season.

“So, I don’t think it’s any bad thing for Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison to wake up this morning or to be directly told ‘you’ve cost us an important three points there.'”

TIF Thoughts on Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison…

The duo both missed quite a few chances in this draw with the Eagles and Calvert-Lewin missed two one-on-ones, so you can see why Carroll blames them for Everton failing to win.

However, given that one is 24 and the other is 23 and have until June 2025 and June 2024 on their contracts respectively, you can see why Carroll perhaps sees them as players who future Everton sides can be built around.

However, Carroll claimed later on in the podcast (24:16) that he can’t see Richarlison being at Everton forever.

Still, despite this, both Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison have performed well under Carlo Ancelotti, and we think that this match was probably just a blip that they will learn from.
