Football journalist Fabrizio Romano has been sharing his thoughts on the upcoming summer transfer window and which areas Arsenal could look to strengthen their squad during it.

This comes after Romano made a guest appearance on a recent video from SFeatleyTV where he spoke about a range of transfer-related topics concerning a variety of clubs across Europe.

Nice easy one to start off with, who currently sits top of the table?

During the video, Roman revealed Arsenal’s intentions to sign a new right-back during the upcoming summer transfer window. (6.05)

He said: “I can say that 100% Arsenal will buy a new right-back, so it is something sure.

“They’re working on the name; they have a list so they have still not decided anything. A player [mentioned] was Tariq Lamptey from Brighton but at the moment he’s not the first option so there is nothing advanced and I think Arsenal will go for a different kind of player as right-back so no Lamptey but a different one.

“I see a lot of rumours about [Achraf] Hakimi but it’s not easy to buy Hakimi because he’s doing so well with Inter [Milan] they are like close to winning the league so I think it’s complicated, if [Antonio] Conte will stay as Inter manager, it will be really complicated for them to sell Hakimi so [Arsenal] will go for a right-back for sure.”

Prior to their Premier League match against Sheffield United, Arsenal have picked up a very mixed bag of results under Mikel Arteta so far this season, winning 12, drawing six and losing 12 of the 30 league games they’ve played (per BBC Sport).

TIF Thoughts on Fabrizio Romano’s comments on Arsenal chase for a right-back this summer…

In terms of their current right-backs, Arsenal have Hector Bellerin and Cedric Soares in their squad that predominantly occupy the right full-back position.

Do you think Arsenal need to sign a new right-back in the summer?

No

No

However, given how Soares has only managed to pick up a rather disappointing season rating of 6.48/10 for his performances in the Premier League in this campaign, making him one of the lowest-rated players that are currently in Arsenal’s squad, perhaps signing a right-back with more quality than Soares would be the best way forward for the club.
