On the subject of Lo Celso, who has been out of action since December with a hamstring injury, Gold had this to say about the Argentine.

He said: “I think, for me, a key man to get back will be Giovani Lo Celso.

“Giovani Lo Celso, I think, is going to be an important thing for Mourinho in not overplaying the rest of his team. I think Spurs have missed him. I think he’s getting a bit of flak right now, in the same way [Erik] Lamela did for various injuries and the frustrations of that, he’s had a bit of a nightmare.

“He’s had a serious hamstring injury, and then he’s come back, and he’s come back – but in the work that he’s doing to up his fitness as quickly as he can, he’s kind of hurt his back a bit.

“It’s just one of the things when you push yourself – he’s been out for almost three months – so he’s pushing himself and he’s kind of got some discomfort in his back. I don’t think it’ll be long until he’s playing again, but I do think that he’s actually going to be quite an important player for Mourinho to be able to rotate his options.”

Spurs originally signed Lo Celso on a loan deal from Real Betis back in August 2019.

Since then, the 24-year-old, who is currently valued at £31.5 million, has made 56 appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side across all competitions in which he has managed to score seven goals and provide four assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Alasdair Gold’s comments on Lo Celso and his current fitness…

It’s a shame to hear that Lo Celso has picked up this back problem after being out for such a long time with his hamstring injury.

Do you think Spurs have missed Lo Celso since he's been out injured?

No

Despite not being one of Spurs’ highest-rated performers in the Premier League season based on the 11 appearances he’s made in the top flight so far in this campaign (as per WhoScored), Mourinho will undoubtedly want him back fit and available for selection considering Spurs are still fighting to win the Europa League, secure a place in the top four of the Premier League table and beat Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final next month.

Moving forward, hopefully, Lo Celso can overcome his injury issues and become a regular player for Spurs in the remainder of the season, as Gold seems to be under the impression he will be.
