Newcastle United fans have been reacting to claims regarding the future of Dwight Gayle at the club.

The 31-year-old forward, hasn’t had the best time this season when it comes to getting on the pitch. First off he had to recover from his MCL injury that he picked up in pre-season, and has only appeared 13 times in all competitions since then, with only two of them being starts.

But despite this, it would appear as though those at the club think that he still has something to offer them moving forward, as according to a report from The Athletic, he is set to sign a new three-year deal at the club, although it is said to be ‘on reduced terms’.

News which has surprisingly left many fans pleased when it was relayed to them by @NUFC360:

“Preparing for the Championship already”
“17 goals in the championship next season nailed on”
“Brilliant news imo”
“Best bit of business completed by the club since the ASM signing. If he can stay fit, we’ve got a proven Championship striker should the worse happen this season and a player who still commands a £10m fee for a Championship contender. Grim – but that’s the reality.”
“Pleasantly surprised by what is is actually smart quick business by the club and the first real recognition that we’re very likely to be relegated. Said before we needed him signed up else he’d likely have signed for another championship team #NUFC”
“Actually an astute piece of business, for a change. If the worst comes to worst and we go down he is a very capable Championship striker. If we stay up, we can flog him on. Lee Charnley surprisingly showing some form of common sense!”

Given where Newcastle United are right now, perhaps it may come as a surprise that these fans have been so positive.
