Mark Douglas has been speaking on the latest edition of the Everything is Black & White podcast about all things relating to Newcastle United.
One of the topics that The Chronicle reporter spent some time on was Steve Bruce’s future after the Toon failed to beat Aston Villa on Friday night.
Newcastle went into the game knowing that a win would put them four points clear of Fulham, but they could only manage a draw, and then both Burnley and Brighton & Hove Albion won to leave the Toon in 17th place.
However, it seems as if Bruce is still not under any pressure.
Douglas said: (5:40) “We were talking last night, I thought 1-0 down in my head, I’m thinking ‘this could be the day that they decide to make the change’.
“Then I think in the cold light of day, I don’t think even that would have persuaded them to make the change.
“That’s the weird situation. I don’t think he’s under any pressure. Unless it gets really, really grim, and even then, it would probably be get rid of him; Graeme Jones comes in.”
Do you think Bruce should be sacked?
Yes, we are going down if we don't sack him
No, we will be fine
TIF Thoughts on Bruce…
His side are without Allan Saint-Maximin, Callum Wilson, and Miguel Almiron, so that can’t be helping, but they still needed a 94th-minute header from Jamaal Lascelles to secure a point against Villa on Friday.
They now head to Brighton, and by the time they kick-off, they could be in the relegation zone, so it doesn’t look good for them, and we find it staggering that Bruce is under no pressure despite the Toon’s dreadful form and the real threat of relegation.
