Newcastle United supporters have been reacting on Twitter as the latest updates emerge regarding transfer target Matthew Bondswell.

The Magpies are currently enduring a tough Premier League campaign, with a run of just two wins in their last 17 league outings leaving them hovering above the drop zone.

Steve Bruce’s men take on Brighton in their next fixture, and with Graham Potter’s Seagulls just one place and two points below the St. James’ Park outfit, it’s a game that could prove pivotal in both team’s fight for survival.

It already appears as though Bruce is planning for the future, though, as the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder has confirmed that the club are close to completing a deal for England Under-18 international left-back Bondswell.

The youngster started his career with Nottingham Forest before joining Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig and is set to join Newcastle on a free transfer, however, not all of the club’s fans are too impressed with the potential signing.

“Building for the championship then”

“Who?”

“Even as a Newcastle fan I genuinely think someone from the England set up should step in and tell him it’s a terrible move.”

@aliclow

“Good business, solid championship player.”

“Any good? Where from?”

Newcastle fans can be forgiven for not being overly excited at signing a player for the future when their troubles at present are so pressing, but signing an England youth international on a free transfer is always a good piece of business.
