Charles Watts thinks that Arsenal could be in a position to let Joe Willock move on this summer, but only if Newcastle United stay in the division.

The on-loan midfielder has certainly found some joy in playing up on Tyneside, having already become the club’s third-best player based off his WhoScored rating, and recently spoke about how much he enjoys playing for his current side, and even went on to state that he would ‘love to continue playing here’.

And speaking on the latest edition of his show, Watts felt that if the stars aligned right for Willock, Arsenal and Newcastle United, it would make sense for the club to sell him on during the summer transfer window.

He said: “I think if you can get a decent amount of money for Joe Willock – if Newcastle stay up and are interested in signing him permanently – then that’s something Arsenal should probably look to do.

“I think it’d be good for Arsenal and I think it’d be good for Joe Willock as well, because I think when you look long-term, does Joe Willock really have a future as a first-team regular at Arsenal? I don’t think he does.”

TIF Thoughts on Charles Watts’ comments regarding Joe Willock’s future at Arsenal…

Watts’ comments do certainly point towards the perfect scenario for all parties, especially from an Arsenal perspective. Given their current financial situation, if they are to rebuild the squad and bring in players who can make a big impact on the squad like Martin Odegaard, then they are probably going to need to sell players first, and Willock could be one of the names up for grabs.

Given the pressure that Mikel Arteta was under earlier this season, they may need to start thinking about making a big impact straight away to show they’re going in the right direction rather than looking years into the future, so if Willock has to go to make it happen, then so be it. We’ll just have to wait and see if Newcastle United hold up their end of the bargain.
