Celtic pundit Anthony Haggerty has recently talked about John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan.

Haggerty appeared on the latest episode of the Celtic State of Mind podcast and the panel talked about multiple aspects involving the sacking of Neil Lennon and the potential replacements for him. Haggerty made it clear that there should be no way that John Kennedy keeps managing the Bhoys beyond the current campaign.

With Lennon having resigned from his post as the club’s manager, Kennedy is set to take charge of the Hoops on a temporary basis. Kennedy has previously managed the club’s Under-19s side and he has also taken over multiple other roles at the Parkhead-based side (as per Transfermarkt).

Should Celtic even think about keeping Kennedy long-term?

No

Haggerty made it clear that the club needs a new voice and Kennedy should only serve the purpose of limping on till the end of the season, when the club’s board should make a decision about the next permanent manager.

He said (6:59): “You need a new voice, that’s the thing that concerns me. But it doesn’t overly concern me that Kennedy is just a stop gap, because there is no way that Kennedy and Strachan will take the reins in the long term. You have to think that they’ve just said – okay, we’ve made a call here. We’ll limp on till the end of the season and then they’ll do their due diligence on the person they want to bring in.”

TIF Thoughts on John Kennedy…

While Kennedy has previously held multiple roles at Celtic at various levels, Neil Lennon had previously tipped him to manage the club’s first-team. The former assistant manager was linked with the managerial role at Hibernian too.

While it is a good sign, the Hoops have been linked with a move for the likes of Roberto Martinez and Rafa Benitez. Benitez has won multiple trophies in many countries and Martinez has won the FA Cup in his career. They are much more experienced managers and perhaps, the Hoops should look to appoint them instead of keeping Kennedy.
