Watt was hosting the latest episode of the Celtic State of Mind podcast and along with Amy Camavan, he talked about multiple issues involving the Hoops. He talked about potential Neil Lennon replacements and this led to him talking about Howe. He revealed a key detail about Howe and whether he’d want to manage in Scotland.
Howe left Bournemouth at the end of the 2019/20 campaign, which saw the Cherries get relegated from the Premier League. Last year, it was reported that Celtic had held talks with the Englishman about potentially replacing Lennon and Jim White had talked about his golfing session with Peter Lawwell.
Do you think Eddie Howe might want to relocate to Glasgow?
While talking about Howe and his future, Watt revealed that he’s heard from someone close to Bournemouth that their former manager is well settled near the south coast right now.
The pundit said (28:44): “The only problem you’ve got there is and I’ve heard it from someone who’s very well connected at Bournemouth – he’s really family rooted down there and it would take a lot for him to make that step up to Celtic.”
TIF Thoughts on Eddie Howe…
Even as a player, Howe had played for the Cherries on two occasions and he came through the Bournemouth academy too. His second spell at the club as a player started in 2004 and ended in 2007 (as per Transfermarkt).
It shows that Howe certainly does have a deep connection with the Cherries and if he doesn’t want to manage Celtic and move to Glasgow, it is easy to see why.
