Anne-Marie Batson has given her insight into the situation regarding the manager’s position at Celtic.

Whilst the board at Celtic Park have put assistant John Kennedy in interim charge following the resignation of Neil Lennon earlier this week, there is still the question about who is likely going to take over the role for the long-term, with plenty of names being thrown about. Two of those names are Frank Lampard and Eddie Howe, most recently seen as head coaches of Chelsea and AFC Bournemouth respectively.

Speaking on the Football Writers Podcast (29:45), Batson explained what the position was with those two names regarding the vacancy:

“I think, you know, Celtic have got options for sure. They could take somebody like Eddie Howe, but I think from what I understand, gents, I think he’s keen to get back into the Premier League.

“It could be the right job for Frank actually, in terms of just keeping his foot within the game. I’d like to think that Frank is at least having discussions with Celtic and see if that’s an option for him.”

Batson talks about the timing of these appointments, with someone like Howe more likely to wait for a Premier League job first.

Regardless of who is going to be taking on the role at Celtic Park, the decision is probably something that needs to be made as soon as possible, and whilst Kennedy is only an interim manager, the sooner they can bring someone the better.

Whilst this season might be a write-off, if they do decide to go for Howe, Lampard, or any manager on their list, they need to do so quickly to give them time to get bedded in to the club and be ready to go in the summer rather than being thrown in at the deep end come the start of the next campaign.
