Former Premier League referee Mark Halsey has been sharing his thoughts on a potential red card incident that took place during Celtic’s recent 2-1 win over Motherwell in the SPFL.

Goals from Stephen Welsh and Odsonne Edouard secured the three points for Neil Lennon’s side despite a second-half consolation goal from the visitors.

Which club did Brown join Celtic from?

During the game, Motherwell attacker Devante Cole kicked out at Hoops midfielder Ismaila Soro but was only shown a yellow card by the referee.

Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, Halsey was asked whether or not Cole should have been given a red card instead of a yellow one for this incident with Soro.

In response, Halsey had this to say on the matter. (16.19)

He said: “For me, I think it’s an absolute clear red card. I think the assistant is right there as well. Kicking or attempting to kick an opponent is an act of violent conduct and Celtic were absolutely spot on, it was a red card offence for violent conduct.

“It’ll be interesting to see in the coming days what happens with the Motherwell player.”

In our view, Cole was lucky to be only given a yellow card because as Halsey said, kicking or attempting to kick an opponent as it looked like he did to Soro, is a red card offence for violent conduct.

Do you think Cole should have been sent off for his kick at Soro?

Either way, with the Hoops having managed to win the game and pick up all three points, this will undoubtedly be their main takeaway from the game so they can now move on and focus on winning their next league game against St. Mirren in midweek.
