Newcastle United fans have been reacting to news coming out surrounding former player Adam Armstrong.

The 23-year-old left his boyhood club for Blackburn Rovers in 2018 when he was sold for a fee reported to be £1.75m by Rafael Benitez and has been going from strength to strength at Ewood Park, already surpassing last season’s total of 16 league goals with much of the season still yet to be played.

So it’s no surprise to see Premier League clubs showing an interest in him for the upcoming summer transfer window. However, according to a recent article by Lee Ryder in The Chronicle, Steve Bruce’s men hold a 40% sell-on fee for his next move, something which would make it very easy for him to come back to St James’ Park at a highly discounted rate:

‘Were the fee to drop to £15million, which is still more than his valuation on trusted scouting website Transfermarkt, Newcastle could sign him for around £9million due to a potential reduction triggered by the sell-on clause.’

News which got plenty of Newcastle United fans very excited on social media, knowing that they’ve got a major advantage if the deal were to become an arms race:

“£9m would be a no brainer tbh”

“Yeah we should try to get Arma back. If we can pick up one of the best players in the Championship 40% cheaper than other PL clubs, we should definitely do that. Excellent Gayle replacement.”
“I bet he is going to be the next Andy Carroll – linked with us every transfer window! Although, I’d take him back with open arms…”
“£9m? Get him back! Offers way more than Joelinton & Carroll does right now.”
“Bring him back home”
“Nah we need him back man.”
“Yesssss sign sign sign”

Should NUFC consider signing Armstrong this summer?

A major advantage indeed, now we just wait to see whether or not they’ll actually be in the market for him in the summer.
