Speaking recently on a video for Leeds Live, Beren Cross provided an injury update on Leeds United midfielder, Kalvin Phillips, ahead of the Whites’ fixture against Aston Villa this weekend.

So far this season, Phillips has highly impressed over his 18 Premier League appearances for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, with the £24.3 million-rated defensive midfielder providing two assists, as well as making an average of 2.7 tackles, 1.6 interceptions and 1.3 key passes per game, culminating in an average WhoScored match rating of 7.06 – ranking him as the club’s fourth-best performer in the top flight.

Nice easy one to start off with, what number does Phillips wear for Leeds United?

However, on two separate occasions this term the 25-year-old has been sidelined due to injury, with a knock to his shoulder ruling him out for three matches earlier in the season, while a calf injury has also seen the England international miss the club’s last three games.

Although, speaking on a recent video for Leeds Live, Cross provided a positive update on the fitness of the midfielder ahead of United’s upcoming fixture against Aston Villa this Saturday.

He said: “You look at the language Bielsa has used in recent weeks and you have to think that Phillips got a chance for Saturday. Given that he wasn’t ruled out of the Arsenal game – and we’ve now had Arsenal, Wolves and Southampton – you’ve got to think he’s got a chance.”

TIF Thoughts on Beren Cross’ update on Kalvin Phillips’ injury…

From Cross’ comments, it would appear as if the journalist feels fairly upbeat regarding Phillips’ chances of returning to the Leeds side for the Aston Villa game.

And, considering the fact that United have lost five of the seven Premier League fixtures in which the £35k per week midfielder has been absent so far this season, should Phillips indeed make his return this weekend, it would represent a massive boost for the Whites’ chances of victory.
