West Ham United insider ExWHUemployee has claimed there is a chance that the Hammers will not sign any new players in the current transfer window.

During the summer transfer window, the Irons sealed the arrival of four players, two on permanent deals and two on loan (as per Transfermarkt).

In the current transfer window, they have already brought one player in and that is Frederick Alves for £1.44m from Silkeborg IF.

However, despite the arrival of the Danish centre-back, David Moyes’ squad still looks a little light in some key positions, one of which is up front – with Michail Antonio as the only natural option there.

During the latest episode of The West Ham Way Podcast, ExWHUemployee made the worrying claim that the Hammers may not sign any more players this month.

Who did West Ham United face in their opening fixture of the 2020/21 Premier League season?

He said: “There’s no signing at this point that’s close at all, you know that because I am telling you but [also] Moyes said it [on Tuesday] in his post-match interview.

“There is a chance, and I say a chance because I don’t think it will happen – but there is a chance that we don’t sign anyone.

“What that percentage chance is, I don’t know, but Moyes has made it very clear, and obviously, the chairmen are going to back this notion, that he doesn’t want to just sign someone for the sake of signing them.

“He wants to sign someone that is going to make a difference, like [Tomas] Soucek has and [Jarrod] Bowen and so on.

“So, he’s not just going to bring in any old player just for the sake of having a forward.

“I think we will sign someone. If you [were] to ask me to make a bet on it, I think we will sign someone but, at this point, it’s not close.”

TIF Thoughts on ExWHUemployee’s worrying transfer claim…

As can be seen in what the in-the-know podcaster had to say, he believes there is a chance that the Hammers will not sign any more players during the current transfer window.

Is it essential that West Ham sign at least one new player this month?

No, it's not necessary

No, it's not necessary

Yes, it is essential

Yes, it is essential

This will likely come as a worrying claim for supporters due to the lack of depth in Moyes’ current first-team squad.

As mentioned, the Scottish manager only has Antonio as a natural, senior striker and he has missed eight games through injury so far this season.

Furthermore, the Irons only have five options who are out-and-out players in a position through the centre of midfield.

So, it certainly does seem like the Hammers’ squad is in need of additions.
