In-the-know podcaster ExWHUemployee has recently discussed West Ham United’s interest in signing RB Leipzig striker Hwang Hee-chan.
On Wednesday, it was reported by Sky Sports that the Hammers had sealed the arrival of Said Benrahma on a permanent deal from Brentford.
In the same report, it was claimed that the Irons are ‘in talks’ over signing the South Korean striker from the Bundesliga as well.
Supposedly, David Moyes is set to make a decision over whether or not West Ham should sign the £13.5m-rated attacker.
During the latest episode of The West Ham Way Podcast, ExWHUemployee discussed the transfer link between the Hammers and Hee-chan.
He said: “I do think they still want to sign a backup striker. That backup striker, at the moment, appears to be the South Korean Hwang Hee-chan – he plays for Leipzig in Germany.
“He hasn’t got the greatest record for them, not got the greatest record for South Korea either, but he’s scored in Austria reasonably well before he went to Germany.
“What they like about him is that he’s a bit like [Michail] Antonio, which is what pleases me because we’re getting our recruitment for the right type of player rather than just anyone.
“He works hard, very energetic, runs the flanks, hustles a lot, tries really hard.
“It seems to be at the moment, though, that we’re deliberately delaying the deal to see, a) what options come up, and b) whether we’re 100% convinced that he’s the right person to go forward.”

As can be seen in what the in-the-know podcaster had to say, it seems the South Korean attacker is a serious option, however, West Ham are biding their time.

So far this season, the 25-year-old forward has not scored a goal or provided an assist over seven substitute appearances in the Bundesliga (per WhoScored).
His 6.08/10 average rating has also made him the second-worst performer in Leipzig’s squad, so, perhaps it is no surprise that the Hammers are biding their time.
However, in 27 Austrian Bundesliga appearances for Red Bull Salzburg last season, he bagged 11 goals and 12 assists (per Transfermarkt), so, that has shown he is capable of delivering in front of goal.
