Many Tottenham Hotspur fans have been discussing an update about Dele Alli that recently emerged on social media.
The Telegraph’s Matt Law has recently issued an update about Alli’s situation at Spurs, stating that Daniel Levy isn’t allowing the Englishman to depart the club on a loan deal this month because of worries that the squad might be short because of issues involving the virus.
What did Spurs fans make of this update about Alli?
“Then he needs to sit jose down and tell him he’s got to be getting minutes. We cannot let a 24 year olds career come to a grinding halt. This could be disastrous for the dressing room.“
While Spurs were held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham in the Premier League on Thursday, Alli posted a picture of himself looking unhappy around quite the same time. He is currently valued at £34.2m.
The 24-year-old has made only 12 appearances in all competitions this season, but his last appearance in the league came against Liverpool in December but he played only three minutes. Even against Crystal Palace, he played only five minutes of the tie (as per Transfermarkt).
Some other Spurs fans also expressed their annoyance about the update involving Alli.
“Proves the disconnect between levy and jose. Jose doesn’t want him plain and simple. Why keep a player thats never gonna play. Couldn’t get on yesterday. Didn’t even get brought on in europa league where Jose made 5 subs. Says it all.”
Alli is still 24 and considering his contributions to the club in the past, we can see how good a player he can be on his day. Even in the 2019/20 season, the Englishman managed to contribute to 12 league goals. In the 2017/18 season, he contributed to 19 league goals (as per WhoScored).
As can be seen above, it is clear that some fans are worried that Mourinho’s treatment of a player of such high quality by banishing him from the first team is potentially stagnating Alli’s career and setting a poor example to the rest of his squad. Considering the midfielder’s past outputs for Spurs, you have to say that this is legitimate cause for concern for the supporters, especially with the persisting rumours regarding his future at the club.
Given Alli’s game time under Mourinho this season, the Spurs boss doesn’t seem to trust him as a player. But having said that, Mourinho isn’t known to be a manager who lasts too long at clubs. So perhaps, if Spurs can keep Alli around till Mourinho potential departure in the future, he might get more game time under the next manager.
