Supporters of Leeds United have recently reacted to a transfer link which has emerged between the Whites and Mainz 05 striker Jean-Philippe Mateta.

According to Football Insider, as cited by TEAMtalk, Marcelo Bielsa’s side is ‘keeping tabs’ on the Frenchman with a view to making a swoop for him.

While Leeds’ interest in Mateta is claimed to be ‘concrete’, it is stated there is ‘strong interest’ from other Premier League clubs.

However, the report by Football Insider does admit that signing a striker is more likely in the summer than in the current transfer window for the Yorkshire outfit.

The 23-year-old forward has until the summer of 2023 on his existing deal with his Bundesliga club and a market value of £13.5m according to Transfermarkt.

This report was relayed on Twitter by James Marshment and it had lots of Leeds supporters talking.

Of the Whites’ three natural strikers, Bamford has been in the best form this season as he has bagged 10 goals and three assists in 17 league outings.

Rodrigo, meanwhile, has made 15 appearances in the Premier League, in which he has managed to score three goals but not provide an assist for Leeds.

Gelhardt, however, has not made a single senior appearance for Bielsa’s side so far this term.
