Fans of Tottenham Hotspur have taken to Twitter to criticise Spurs defender, Matt Doherty, for his performance against Royal Antwerp on Thursday evening.
Since moving to Spurs from Wolverhampton Wanderers in what was a £15.12 million deal back in August, Doherty has so far featured 13 times for Jose Mourinho’s side, providing one assist along the way.
Over his six appearances in the Premier League, the £18 million-rated 28-year-old has highly impressed, making an average of two tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 2.3 clearances per game, culminating in a WhoScored match rating of 7.06 – ranking him as Tottenham’s fourth-best player in the top flight.
However, in the club’s recent 2-0 victory over Antwerp in the Europa League, Football.London awarded the right-back a 6/10 rating, stating that the defender was ‘underused’ down the right-hand side, as well as not having ‘much of a chance to shine in attacking scenarios’.
And, it would appear that this is a stance many Tottenham fans agreed with, as a great deal of them took to Twitter to slate the Republic of Ireland international for his performance in the fixture.
Do you think Doherty is good enough for Spurs?

People like to say Levy is the toughest negotiator in football. But Wolves somehow managed to get £15m out of him for Matt Doherty

Doherty touches it 3 times all half and still manages to wind me up every time. Just placed a free header straight to their left back. Donkey #thfc

All in all, it would appear that the vast majority of these Spurs fans did not rate Doherty’s performance against Antwerp very highly whatsoever, with some even calling for him to be sold by the club.
