Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has been sharing his thoughts on Lilywhites defender Joe Rodon and whether or not he will start the club’s next Premier League game against Arsenal at the weekend.
This comes after Gold recently uploaded a video onto his YouTube channel where he spoke about a number of topics concerning Jose Mourinho’s side.
On the topic of Rodon and his performance for Spurs during their recent 0-0 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Gold had this to say on the defender.
He said: “I think it was a real learning process for him on Sunday. He’ll take that on, [he] probably will play in the north London derby unless [Davinson] Sanchez is absolutely incredible against LASK this week, but you’d imagine it will be Rodon, especially with fresh legs.
“He’s going to get more chances to show what he can do and I think there’s a lot more to come from him.”
Spurs signed the Welshman back in October from Championship side Swansea City for a fee of £10.89 million. Since then, the 23-year-old has made just three Premier League appearances for the north London club, with his first start coming against Chelsea where he played the full 90 minutes (per Transfermarkt).

Given how Rodon earned himself a match rating of 6.87/10, making him the fourth-highest rated Spurs player against Chelsea, it’s not particularly surprising that Gold thinks Rodon will start in the club’s next match against Arsenal.
Defensively, Rodon made more interceptions (3) and clearances (5) than any other Spurs player did against Frank Lampard’s side (per WhoScored).
In our view, Rodon showed against Chelsea that he is capable of performing in the Premier League to a decent standard and did enough to show that he will be a useful figure for Spurs against Arsenal at the weekend.
