Dean Jones has been speaking on a recent edition of Touchline Talk with Pete O’Rourke about news from a few clubs around England and Scotland, which happened to involve Liverpool and Rangers as he tipped Steven Gerrard as Jurgen Klopp’s replacement at Anfield.

First up in this Mo Salah quiz, what is his current squad number for Liverpool?

One of the clubs that he spent a bit of time on was Liverpool and potential replacements for Jurgen Klopp.

The German’s contract does not expire until 2024, so he still has a long time left at Anfield.

Still, Jones started discussing the possibility of Gerrard taking over when Klopp does leave, and it seems as if he thinks the former Reds midfielder would be the ideal candidate for the role.

He said: “It will almost be a no-lose situation if Gerrard is able to succeed Klopp.

“He’s done so well at Rangers that you could argue, at this stage, he would deserve a crack.

“In terms of somebody taking over from Klopp, it’s going to be so difficult.

“There’s going to be a legacy left behind from this.

“He has led them back to where they have been trying to get to for so long, and who can continue that?

“Well, Steven Gerrard is probably one of the few people that understands what he [Klopp] has actually managed to build at Liverpool and how he’s done it.

“I think that’s going to be the most important thing for whoever goes in there next.

“It’s about understanding Liverpool and understanding what Klopp has built, and I think even if that [were] just to be a short-term thing, it would help Liverpool get through the transition.”

TIF Thoughts on Gerrard and him potentially succeeding Klopp…

Gerrard is a Liverpool legend, having made a staggering 710 appearances, scored 186 goals, and provided 136 assists.

So, there are probably not many people around who know the club better than he does, and if what Jones says is right, then he could be the ideal candidate to replace Klopp even for a short period of time.

He has not won anything with Rangers as of yet, but he is 11 points clear of Celtic in the Premiership, so maybe he could end the season with silverware.

However, for knowing Liverpool and understanding Klopp and what he has done, we can’t think of anyone better for the job than Gerrard, so when Klopp leaves Anfield, we would like to see Gerrard as his replacement.
