Derby County journalist Ryan Conway has been sharing his thoughts on the club’s search for a new manager after sacking Phillip Cocu last month.

This comes after Conway recently shared a video onto his YouTube channel where he discussed a number of topics going on at Pride Park.

To kick off our latest EFL quiz, can you name which Championship team won by the biggest margin of any second-tier side this past weekend?

On the topic of Derby’s hunt for a new manager and the timescale around it, Conway had this to say on the matter.

He said: “The reason that the managerial hunt is seemingly never-ending is because the new ownership want to make that decision, and while they’re not the owners right now, and while nothing is official right now, they don’t – so they can’t make that decision yet.

“They don’t know what they’re playing with right now in terms of the budget for the manager, all that sort of stuff. So right now, it’s Wayne Rooney until that takeover happens and I imagine the dominoes will fall; [the] takeover happens and then a couple of days after that, a manager is named – be that Rooney or any other manager, a manager is named.”

Since Cocu was sacked, Derby have had an interim coaching team in place made up of Wayne Rooney, Shay Given, Liam Rosenior and Justin Walker.

Since then, Derby have lost away to Bristol City, Middlesbrough and drew against Wycombe Wanderers ahead of their midweek clash against Coventry City (per Transfermarkt).

Do you think Derby's new owners will appoint Wayne Rooney as the club's new manager?

TIF Thoughts on Ryan Conway’s comments on Derby’s managerial hunt…

With the Midlands club on the verge of a takeover from Sheikh Khaled, the cousin of Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour, it appears that this will play a big part in regards to the club appointing a manager, as Conway mentioned in his video.

Looking at Derby’s results so far this season and the fact that they are currently sat in the relegation zone of the Championship table, in our view, the takeover needs to happen as soon as possible so they can get a new manager in because their current interim coaching team doesn’t seem to be working at this moment in time.
