Host Ricki Neill and ex-Rangers players Derek Ferguson and Ian Durrant discussed all of the latest Rangers news during the most recent edition of the Blues Brothers Podcast and they spent some time talking about Gers midfielder Joe Aribo during the show.

This podcast came after the Glasgow club earned an emphatic 8-0 Premiership win over Hamilton Academical on Sunday. Aribo played a significant role in that win, as he scored two of the Gers’ goals and earned an impressive overall WhoScored rating of 9.92 for his performance, making him Rangers’ third-highest rated player in that game according to the stats website.

How well do you remember Rangers' 2020/21 season so far? We'll start you off with an easy one... Rangers beat Aberdeen 1-0 in the opening gameweek of the Premiership, but which player scored the only goal of the game?

With that in mind, it mightn’t be a surprise that Ferguson was buzzing about Aribo during this recent edition of the Blues Brothers Podcast. He shared praise for the Nigerian midfielder and shared some optimism about the size of the transfer fee he thinks he will command in the future, saying:

“He’s got the old dancing feet, doesn’t he? In tight spaces, he can just go past people. He’s got a wee dip of the shoulder as well.

“He was brilliant earlier on in the season, he’s just back from injury and he’s just hit the ground running. I just like Aribo and you talk about – not this season or maybe even next season – two or three seasons down the line, he’ll go for big money. He’s going to be a top, top player, him.”

TIF Thoughts on what Ferguson had to say about Aribo…

Aribo is currently valued at £900k according to Transfermarkt but it seems from what Ferguson had to say that he thinks his value may skyrocket over the next few years.

The 24-year-old has been a key player for the Gers this term, as he is currently the Glasgow club’s joint-second-highest goalscorer (four) in the league and he has earned the second-highest overall WhoScored rating (7.67) of any Rangers player in the Premiership this season.

So, if Aribo can continue to perform like this as his Rangers career progresses, then perhaps Steven Gerrard’s side will be able to make a sizeable transfer profit on the midfielder – who they signed on a free transfer in the summer of 2019 – if they do cash in on him in two or three seasons.

However, while Ferguson thinks Aribo will be worth a lot of money in the transfer market in two or three seasons, his Gers contract is set to expire at the end of the 2022/23 campaign, which is the season after next, so perhaps the Glasgow club will need to tie the player down to a longer-term deal if their goal is to cash in on him in two or three seasons.
