Pundit and former player Trevor Sinclair has tipped Paolo Di Canio to manage Celtic.

Sinclair appeared on the latest episode of TalkSport’s White and Jordan segment and he talked about the suitability of Di Canio to a managerial role at Parkhead. Sinclair believes that someone like Di Canio has the passion which can ‘stimulate’ the Celtic players.

Di Canio happens to be a former Celtic player and he had joined the Hoops from Milan in the summer of 1996. After a season-long stint at Parkhead, the Italian left Celtic to join Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer (as per Transfermarkt).

Interestingly, Di Canio was reportedly interested in the Celtic job back in 2014.

Sinclair, who himself is a Celtic fan, also had praise for how Di Canio had played during his time as a player at Parkhead.

Sinclair said: “He played excellently when he was up there several years ago. I think he’s got the passion, I think he’d stimulate the players and he’s got management experience. I think he would absolutely be brilliant for Celtic at the moment.”

TIF Thoughts on Sinclair’s comments regarding Di Canio…

Di Canio has managed only two clubs in his managerial career. He initially joined Swindon Town in the summer of 2011 and after managing them for 95 games, he left the club in February 2013. In March 2013 though, he was appointed as the Sunderland manager. After only 13 matches, he left the club and had a points per match tally of only 0.92 (as per Transfermarkt).

This suggests that Di Canio hasn’t had a great time as a manager. As things stand, Celtic are 11 points behind Rangers in the table and they have won just a single game out of their last four league outings (as per Transfermarkt). With their tenth Premiership title in a row at stake, they might need someone who can come in and make immediate impact.

Since Di Canio hasn’t managed a club after Sunderland and his stint there wasn’t impressive, perhaps Celtic should look at other managers if they want to replace Neil Lennon.
