Celtic pundit Kevin Graham has recently talked about Neil Lennon’s comments regarding a need for a cultural change at the club.

Graham was a guest on the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Parkhead-based club. One topic of discussion was Lennon’s comments about the need for a cultural change at Celtic. Graham found these comments ‘strange’.

Following the club’s loss to Sparta Prague, Lennon had said that there needs to be a ‘culture change’ at Celtic to get the players to be more hungry and for them to get the basics right on the pitch. He also said that the players need to be more aggressive in their approach (as per Sky Sports).

Do you think the Celtic team needs a cultural reset?

When talking about this, Graham questioned if a change is needed or not if the current culture has helped the club win multiple trophies.

He said: “If you look at post-Sparta, Neil Lennon came out with a couple of bizarre comments, the main one being was the ‘change of the culture of the dressing room’, which I found really quite strange. When you try to think about that, why does a culture of the dressing room need to change when we are 11 trophies in a row?

“So that’s up to the coaching staff, it’s up to the management team to find out why that culture has changed. We’ve worked at many a workplace where the culture comes from the top. Has the culture changed at the top, or is there outside influences now changing the culture in that dressing room? We maybe need to actually consider that as well. We’re really fragile. We’re as fragile as priceless china.”

TIF Thoughts on Graham’s comments…

Journalist Tom English had said that if Lennon’s talking about a cultural change, then he knows that things have now gone ‘badly awry’. He said that marquee players in the Celtic team are almost like ‘bit-part support acts’ and because of that, there is a lack of confidence at Parkhead (as per BBC Sport).

Even after Celtic’s loss to Ferencvaros in the qualifying stages of the Champions League, Lennon had confirmed that some players didn’t want to be at the club and he had urged players to get their mentality right (as per BBC Sport).

This clearly suggests that Lennon hasn’t been satisfied with the club’s players and that is one thing he really wants them to improve soon.
