Celtic pundit Lawrence Connolly has recently made a claim about striker Odsonne Edouard.

Connolly was a guest on the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Scottish champions. Connolly was asked about Edouard and stated his belief that while the Frenchman will move on, there is no clarity about why he’s not starting games regularly for the Bhoys at present.

Edouard did find the back of the net for Celtic in their recent league game against Hibernian, but that goal came from the penalty spot and he had come on from the bench. His last league start for the club came in October against St. Johnstone and in all competitions, he’s completed the full 90 minutes of a game on just one occasion – against Kilmarnock back in August.

Do you think Lennon is using Edouard in the right manner?

When talking about the striker, Connolly said: “We all know that Eddy’s going to move on. Who’s going to get him in January that came in for him? [Whether] Celtic let him go is another question.

“We need to get to the bottom of why he’s not playing. Why’s he only coming off the bench? Surely he’s got to be a better option than [Albian] Ajeti to lead the line? Griffiths seems to [have] fitness [issues]. We’re almost [in] December, it’s the tail-end of November.”

TIF Thoughts on Connolly’s comments regarding Edouard…

Earlier in the season, Neil Lennon said that Edouard was being affected by the transfer speculation that had surrounded him. He was being linked with a move to Premier League clubs like Leicester City, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa. Brighton also drew links with a move for him.

He would go on to miss the Old Firm derby after having to enter a period of self-isolation. These factors could be a reason why Edouard isn’t playing as regularly as Connolly would want and since his last league goal from open play came in the first game of the season, it is understandable why Lennon isn’t relying on him completely.
