Celtic pundit Lawrence Connolly has recently made a claim about the club’s central defender Kristoffer Ajer.

Connolly was a guest on the latest episode of the ‘A Celtic State of Mind’ podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys. One topic of discussion was Ajer and his future. Connolly believes that the Norwegian will leave Celtic at the end of the current season.

Ajer was heavily linked with a move to AC Milan in the summer transfer window. The Rossoneri even had a bid rejected for the defender. Other clubs like Leicester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid had also drawn links with the Norwegian defender.

Interestingly, the defender joined as a free agent during Ronny Deila’s reign at Parkhead.

Connolly was recently talking about Ajer and his future at Parkhead following some interest in the defender in the summer transfer window.

He said: “Ajer’s, you know, he’s a class player. I think along with [Shane] Duffy, he’ll only be here till the end of this season. I think [Nir] Bitton will stick with us. What next year is going to look like in football? Who knows with [the pandemic] and where income is going to come from.”

TIF Thoughts on Connolly’s comments about Ajer…

Ajer has been a regular for the Bhoys in the current season and he has made 16 appearances in all competitions. In the Premiership, he has played 11 games and has even scored one goal (as per Transfermarkt).

For his performances in the league, Ajer has picked up a rating of 7.19 for the Hoops. As a result, he has been Celtic’s sixth-best performer in the Premiership. That is a reflection of how important a player Ajer is for the Bhoys and if he does end up leaving at the end of the season, Celtic might need to replace him.
