Podcaster Chris Sermanni has recently criticised Celtic for their leaks to journalists involving Neil Lennon’s position at Parkhead.

Sermanni was a guest on the latest episode of The Cynic Weekly podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys. One topic of discussion was Lennon and Sermanni believes that instead of leaking to the press about their support for the Celtic boss, Peter Lawwell should’ve been quoted about his trust.

Should Lawwell come out to support Lennon?

Sky Sports had reported that the club’s board is still supportive of Lennon, despite Celtic’s recent poor run of form. Glasgow Times had reported the same, saying that Lennon won’t walk away from the job and he retains the support of the club.

Sermanni criticised these leaks and described them to be ‘pathetic’. He said: “I thought it was pretty pathetic, I tweet about three times a year. I tweeted last night basically saying: if you’ve got confidence in your man, come out and say it, and they didn’t. They released a couple of articles to two journalists who are well connected to the board, as we know – they kind of tend to leak things out about that.

“See, if you’re going to back Lennon, come out and say it. Lawwell should’ve been quoted. It shouldn’t have been that the Celtic board are happy to stick by him just now and it is kind of leaked to a couple of journalists. That, for me, is hedging your bets.”

TIF Thoughts on Sermanni’s comments regarding Celtic…

In the most recent press conference, Lennon has said that he talks to Lawwell everyday and the club’s chief executive has been ‘very, very supportive’ of him. He also said that the club isn’t panicking, as things stand. He revealed that there is currently ‘calmness’ about Lawwell and the Celtic board (as per the Scottish Sun).

This also suggests that Lennon continues to have the full backing of Lawwell and while the chief executive hasn’t come out in the open, it is clear from the reports and Lennon’s comments that he is still supportive of the manager.

We think that this is good but if the poor results continue then maybe the board will have to act, and we feel it is up to Lennon to turn Celtic’s form around.
