Steve Wraith and Liam Kennedy have been discussing the ongoing legal battle between Newcastle United and the Premier League during a recent edition of Wraith’s YouTube show, NUFC Matters.

It was confirmed by the club last week that they have issued arbitration proceedings against the Premier League. This comes after the proposed takeover of the club by the Saudi-backed consortium collapsed earlier this year following a number of delays with regards to the owners’ and directors’ test which ultimately saw the prospective buyers pull out of the deal.

Starting with an easy one, what number does Wilson wear for Newcastle?

When discussing a potential timeframe within which this legal dispute could be concluded, Kennedy, a Newcastle United writer had this to say:

“So timeframes – I mean, how long is a piece of string? We really don’t know how long this could take. We really don’t know what action could be taken – it could go in any number of directions, so predicting times is really difficult. We all hope it will be quick and there is a possibility; the legal framework is there, which is what I explained very early doors in this process, the legal framework with the CAT case is there, that this could be very, very fast.

“We could be looking at maybe, I don’t know, potentially January – something like that? This is guesswork, don’t hold me to that. We could, it could genuinely be that fast. Who knows which way this is going to go?”

Are you hopeful of some movement with regards to the proposed takeover by January?

TIF Thoughts on Liam Kennedy’s comments regarding the legal dispute between Newcastle and the Premier League…

Although the journalist did say we could have a ruling by January, he made sure he reiterated the point that his view is based solely on guesswork. The St. James’ Park faithful will no doubt be desperate to see the issue regarding the ownership of their club resolved sooner rather than later because in our view, it could be argued that it is starting to have a negative impact on the team.

Some will say that isn’t the case but knowing major changes with regards to the way the club is run and the structure could be on the horizon could well be a distraction to Steve Bruce and the playing staff. The Magpies have won just one of their last five Premier League fixtures and subsequently find themselves in 15th position.

Taking that into account, there is a clear need for solutions both off the field and on it at the moment.
