Pundit Peter Martin has recently made a claim about the future of Celtic manager Neil Lennon.

Martin was recently hosting the latest episode of PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show and the panel discussed multiple issues involving Scottish football. Discussing Lennon’s future at Parkhead, Martin believes that Celtic’s chief executive Peter Lawwell already has a list of potential replacements for the manager prepared in the event that the Northern Irishman is removed from his post.

Celtic are now as many as 11 points behind Rangers in the table as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Hibernian. They did find themselves 2-0 down, but the Hoops later grabbed two late goals to salvage a point (as per BBC Sport).

Martin believes that whenever Celtic slip up next, Lawwell will be looking at that list – and that discussions about replacing Lennon are already happening.

He said: “Neil Lennon, I think, has got a difficult job getting them back on track. I’ll tell you now, there’ll be a list on Peter Lawwell’s desk saying: the next slip-up, he has to go, here is the list. That discussion’s already taking place.”

TIF Thoughts on Martin’s comments regarding Neil Lennon’s future…

The Herald (via The Celtic Star) has reported that Lennon has refused to quit the Celtic job and the club’s board is still backing him to lead the Hoops to their 10th title in a row this season. This suggests that Martin may be prematurely stating that Celtic are already looking to replace Lennon.

Quite a few games are yet to be played in the Premiership campaign and Celtic have multiple Old Firm derbies to come this season. This suggests that there is still quite a bit of time to turn things around (as per Transfermarkt). Therefore, it is understandable why the Celtic board isn’t taking immediate action against Lennon.
