Celtic legend Chris Sutton has criticised the Green Brigade for putting up a banner outside Parkhead demanding for the exit of Neil Lennon.

Sutton was a guest on the latest episode of the Record Celtic podcast and the panel discussed multiple issues involving the Bhoys. One topic of discussion was the banner that the Green Brigade have put up outside Parkhead, urging Lennon to leave the club soon. Sutton feels that nothing positive can come out from these actions.

A statement from the Green Brigade said that while Lennon and players in the team have delivered ‘unprecedented success’ to the club, that shouldn’t be an excuse for the performances this season. The banner from the fan group read: “Save the ten, time to go Neil” (as per the Daily Record).

Do you think the Green Brigade did the right thing?

Sutton had a lot of criticism for the Green Brigade’s actions and he made his opinion very clear.

He said: “I thought the stuff with the banner outside the stadium – just a bunch of idiots, and I really mean that. Because, what good can it do? What positive can [come out]? That’s what we all love about the game, we all have different opinions about things. I’ve got a lot of Celtic-supporting friends who have texted me and they said, ‘well, Neil Lennon has been a great servant to the club, great player, he’s had great success as a manager, and it is time for him to move on,’ in their opinion.

“And do you know what? I understand that, and I understand the frustration with a lot of fans out there at the moment. They’ve had it so good for a long, long time, but the banner outside the ground this morning, there was a sense of entitlement and I didn’t get that.”

Which club did Brown join Celtic from?

TIF Thoughts on Sutton’s comments regarding the Green Brigade’s banner…

Celtic captain Scott Brown has also dismissed the banner, saying that it is what one gets in today’s era and people would be looking to get a picture for Instagram or Twitter. Brown also urged the fans to stick with the team (as per the Daily Record).

Even Lennon has said that while everyone isn’t happy with how the situation is right now, there is ‘calmness’ about the club’s board and Peter Lawwell has been quite supportive of him too (as per BBC Sport). It has been reported that Lennon’s position at the club is still very much secure.

So while the Green Brigade have expressed their opinion, it seems as if Lennon is here to stay and the club trusts him to turn things around.
