The Athletic’s Tim Spiers has recently provided an update on Wolverhampton Wanderers’ club captain Conor Coady.

Last week, it was reported by the Old Gold that the central defender had to leave the England camp after joining up with the squad for international duty (per Wolves).

That was due to the fact the 27-year-old had inadvertently come into contact with somebody who had tested positive for coronavirus.

Therefore, following the UK government’s guidelines, Coady had gone into self-isolation.

During the latest episode of The Athletic’s The Molineux View podcast, Spiers discussed the latest with Wolves’ captain and provided an update on him.

To kick off this quiz on Romain Saiss, what squad number does the defensive midfielder currently wear for the Old Gold?

He said: “So, he’s come into contact with someone who’s tested positive – and as per government rules, has now got to self-isolate for 14 days.

“From a Wolves point of view, is he going to play against Southampton? The fact that the game has been moved to Monday night is a blessing because it ensures, from what I gather, that he is eligible and available to play.

“I’m not sure the specific day that his 14-day isolation is up, but it’s certainly up in time for that Southampton game.

“I’m not sure he’ll have much time to train with the squad, whether that comes into Nuno [Espirito Santo]’s thinking as for his selection, I doubt it.

“He’s as fit as a fiddle and he doesn’t do the most running of anyone in the team – I think he can drop in. He’ll be fine, he’ll continue this incredible, long record of playing in league appearances.

“He’s closing in on a club record in a few weeks’ time on that front.”

TIF Thoughts on Tim Spiers’ update on Conor Coady…

As can be seen in what The Athletic reporter had to say, he believes that Coady will be in contention for the Old Gold’s upcoming clash with Southampton.

Do you hope that Conor Coady will be ready to start against Southampton?

No, he should not start

No, he should not start

Yes, we need him in

Yes, we need him in

Hopefully, when Coady returns for Wolves, his performances begin improving in a defensive sense as he has not been delivering overly impressive figures in key defensive statistics.

Having started in all eight of Wolves’ league matches so far this term, he has made just the seventh-most tackles (1.5) and ranks joint-seventh for interceptions (0.9) (per WhoScored).

So, it is clear that as Wolves’ captain and an ever-present defender, Coady should perhaps be performing better for the Old Gold.
