The Athletic’s Wolverhampton Wanderers correspondent Tim Spiers has recently made a claim regarding the Old Gold’s German midfielder Meritan Shabani.

The 21-year-old attacking-midfielder has been situated at Molineux since Wolves forked out £1.35m to secure his services from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2019 (per Transfermarkt).

Since signing for the club, he has made just one first-team appearance in which he neither bagged a goal nor did he provide an assist.

The youngster made more first-team appearances for Bayern during his time with the Bavarian club as he had three outings with them in which he also neither scored nor assisted.

During the latest episode of The Athletic’s The Molineux View podcast, Spiers discussed Wolves’ young attacking midfield options and made a claim on Shabani.

To kick off this quiz on Romain Saiss, what squad number does the defensive midfielder currently wear for the Old Gold?

He said: “Shabani, I mean, he looked good at the start of last season for the Under-23s; [he made] a couple of first-team appearances.

“I think he’d be in and around the squad now if Nuno [Espirito Santo] rated him, to be honest. He’s not young-young, I think he’s like 20 years old.

“So, the chances of [Shabani, Morgan Gibbs-White or Vitinha] making it into the Wolves team are pretty slim, really.”

TIF Thoughts on what Tim Spiers said about Meritan Shabani…

As can be seen in what the journalist had to say, he believes that the chances of the German featuring for Wolves’ first team are “slim” as he would be involved already if Nuno Santo “rated him”.

So far this season, the 21-year-old attacking midfielder has made seven appearances for the Old Gold’s under-23s in which he has bagged just two assists and no goals (per Transfermarkt).

So, perhaps until he begins delivering better returns in terms of direct goal involvements for Wolves’ under-23s, then it is unlikely he will make the step up to the first team.
