Dan Cook of the HLTCO Crystal Palace-themed podcast has shared an update regarding the club’s plans to redevelop the main stand at their South London home.

Roy Hodgson’s side have enjoyed a solid start to the 2020/21 Premier League campaign, picking up a healthy 13 points from their opening eight fixtures and subsequently sitting in 8th place. Their most recent victory came at the weekend when they comfortably defeated Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United thanks to goals from Scott Dann, Eberechi Eze, Jordan Ayew and an own goal from Helder Costa (as per BBC Sport).

During the podcast, Cook revealed the latest with regards to the redevelopment of the stand, here is what he had to say:

“There is also extremely good news on the proposed redevelopment of Selhurst Park’s main stand. The planned £75m project has moved a step closer to reality after plans were ‘progressed by Croydon Council’.

“The planning committee has formally approved the terms of the Section 106 agreement with Crystal Palace, which after two years-plus of different conversations taking place, is a massive step in the right direction. Under the 106 agreement, Palace will commit to spending up to £1m for local infrastructure, that’s things like cycle routes and controlled parking zones, more bins, station improvements etc – all the stuff that to a supporter may sound a little bit boring and red tape, but at the same time, it needs to be done.

“When you look at any modern construction picture, you’re going to have to make sure that the local area and the surrounding streets are well equipped to deal with the extra footfall of a few more thousand people from week to week turning up at Selhurst Park. It would see our capacity increased from around 26,000 to roughly 34,000.”

TIF Thoughts on Dan Cook’s update regarding the redevelopment of the main stand…

It appears the club are making good progress in their plans to upgrade Selhurst Park, a stadium built in the early 1920s that has always been the club’s home. In our view, the fact that the Crystal Palace hierarchy are making such plans suggests they have the long-term future of the club in mind and the increased capacity should, in theory, bring increased revenue for the Eagles.
