West Ham United insider @ExWHUemployee appeared on the latest edition of The West Ham Way Podcast where he discussed all of the latest news concerning the Irons and spent some time talking about Felipe Anderson’s loan to Porto during the show.

The Brazilian joined Porto on loan for the 2020/21 campaign in October after falling ‘out of favour’ at the London Stadium.

Who did West Ham United face in their opening fixture of the 2020/21 Premier League season?

However, he is yet to make a significant impact at the Estadio do Dragao, with the 27-year-old having played just 49 minutes of football for Porto in all competitions this term and during this recent edition of The West Ham Way Podcast, @ExWHUemployee discussed the possibility of the east London club recalling Anderson from his loan, saying:

“They could negotiate, possibly, for his loan deal to come to an end – by that I mean you would say to Porto, ‘look, he’s not playing for you, you’re paying his wages, we’re happy to cut the loan deal short, we’ll take back the wages and then we can pick him.’

“It depends how much Moyes and the club rate him, because if they want to save his wages, they’ll turn around and they’ll be ‘like, let’s just stick him at Porto for the season and we’ll save all his wages because he’s higher-paid.’

“If it was me, I would call him back and try and arrange for that to happen, because the Porto manager’s [come] out and said that he’s not applying himself, he’s not playing well, isn’t putting effort in, so I think it would be best if we cut it short, but whether they want to save the money, I don’t know.”

TIF Thoughts on what @ExWHUemployee had to say about Anderson…

Recalling Anderson from his loan spell may be the best course of action for West Ham to take if he isn’t getting much game time at Porto regardless of whether or not there is a long-term future for the £22.5m-rated man at the east London club.

If there isn’t a long-term future for Anderson at West Ham and the Irons want to sell him, they may be unlikely to maximise his transfer fee by having him sit on the bench at Porto for the season, so perhaps recalling him and effectively putting him in the shop window themselves would be worthwhile.

On the other hand, if Anderson does have a future at West Ham, then maybe it would do the club some good to reintegrate him into Moyes’ squad sooner rather than later if the alternative is him sitting on the bench at Porto.

Given that the club sent him out on loan, perhaps the ideal situation would be for the Brazilian’s game time to improve in Portugal and as we are just a month into the loan spell, that may still happen, so maybe West Ham will just have to wait and see how Anderson’s time at Porto develops before determining whether or not recalling him is ultimately the best move.
