The Athletic’s West Ham United correspondent Roshane Thomas has recently provided an injury update on Michail Antonio.

During the Hammers’ 1-1 draw with Manchester City, Antonio bagged for the hosts but was later taken off the field early in the second half (per BBC).

It was then revealed that it was due to an injury issue and the Irons were ‘facing an anxious wait’ over a scan to determine whether the forward would require treatment on a ‘niggling hamstring problem’ (per Evening Standard).

Late last week, it was reported that Antonio was facing a six-week spell on the sidelines with a hamstring tear (per Daily Mail).

During the latest episode of The Athletic’s U Irons podcast, Thomas discussed Antonio’s injury and provided a further update on it.

As can be seen in what the journalist had to say, he believes that the injury to Antonio is not as bad as it was initially thought and he should be back following the upcoming international break.

That will likely be a relief to West Ham supporters as the 30-year-old attacker has been their best-performing player in the top flight so far this season (per WhoScored).

After bagging three goals in six top-flight appearances, the Englishman has earned an impressive 7.25/10 average rating for the Hammers.

So, it seems that the sooner Antonio is back to full fitness for West Ham the better.
